Why You Should Clean Your Diamond Ring

Diamond ring need caring to keep them looking brilliant and sparkling. They should be cleaned at least once a month to keep away the dullness that can be caused by skin oils, soap, hand cream lotions and even cooking grease which will create a film on diamonds. Keeping your ring looking excellent requires only simple, regular maintenance. The only substance that does not stick to a diamond is water. The reason you want to keep your diamond clean is that it will allow it to better reflect light. A clean diamond not only reflects light better, but looks bigger than one that has been dulled by oils, cosmetics, dust and dirt. Diamonds have an affinity for grease and should be cleaned regularly to keep them looking their brightest.

Cleaning Diamond Ring

Here are four ways we suggest you clean your diamond ring:

1. Detergent Bath

Prepare a small bowl of warm soapy water with any kind of mild liquid detergent. Avoid using any strong chemical cleaners. Use a soft brush to gently spread the soap around. Carefully rinse the ring under warm water. Make sure not to rinse your ring over an open drain as this will lead to accidents. Pat dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.

2. Cold Water Soak

Mix a small bowl of solution with 6 parts water to 1 part household ammonia. Soak the ring for several minutes, then lift the piece out of the solution and tap gently around the piece with a small soft brush. Rinse the piece in the solution again and drain it on a piece of tissue paper.

3. Ring Cleaning Kits (Quick Dip)

There are ring & jewellery cleaning kits available in stores or online that allow you to easily clean dust and grime off your fine diamond ring. Different kits may cater to different types of rings. Be sure to follow the instructions on the kit as they can vary from brand to brand.

4. Ultrasonic Cleaner

An ultrasonic cleaner is a cleaning device that uses ultrasound and a cleaning agent to clean ring & jewellery and other delicate items. There are several types available on the market. The ultrasound can be used with just water, but a cleaner appropriate for the piece of jewellery to be cleaned and the soiling enhances the effect. When the machine is running, high frequency turbulence is created which will help shake off and remove dirt and other stains in combination with the cleaning solution. Cleaning normally lasts between three and six minutes, although it may take longer depending on dirt, dust and grime build-up. As part of our commitment to our customers, we will gladly clean all rings & jewellery purchased through us free of charge.

Cleaning Your Diamond Ring & Jewellery

Storing Diamond Ring & Jewellery

Diamond is the hardest substance known to man. With appropriate care, they can last forever. However, like anything else they can be scratched, chipped, smudged and soiled. When storing your diamond ring & jewellery, place them in separate compartments of a jewellery box or wrap them in tissues, as diamonds can scratch each other as well as your other jewellery. Be sure to take your precious mounted ring to a jeweller at least once a year to check for loose settings and signs of wear.
